PVC Voter Card: What It Is, Is It Valid, and How to Get One

Quick answer: A PVC voter card is your Voter ID (EPIC) or e-EPIC printed on a durable CR80 plastic card. The official card is issued free by the Election Commission of India; a PVC card from a private printer is a convenience copy, not an official replacement, and acceptance depends on the office or polling staff. PVC Card Print (pvccardprint.in) prints it from your own file for ₹50 plus Speed Post shipping.

Search for “PVC voter card” and you will see two very different things mixed together: guidance about the card the Election Commission issues, and private shops offering to print your voter ID on plastic. This article separates them so you know exactly what you are getting and what it is good for.

What is a PVC voter card?

PVC stands for polyvinyl chloride, the same plastic used for bank cards. A PVC voter card is simply your Voter ID (EPIC) on a durable, wallet-size plastic card of the standard CR80 size, about 85.6 mm × 54 mm. The idea is practical: paper cards bend, tear and fade, while a PVC card survives a wallet and daily handling far better.

Official card or private print?

This is the most important point.

  • The official EPIC is issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) through its election offices. The application and the card are free.
  • The e-EPIC is the ECI’s digital version that you download as a PDF. See how to download it.
  • A private PVC print is a copy of one of those two, printed by a service provider on request. It is a convenience product. The printer is not the issuing authority, and a private print does not replace your original EPIC or e-EPIC.

Anyone who tells you that a private shop can “make a new voter ID” without any record in the electoral roll is not being honest. A card can only reflect details that already exist in the roll. If your name is not there, you must register first through Form 6.

Is a PVC voter card valid for voting?

At the polling station, the presiding officers follow the ECI’s instructions for the election in progress. The rules usually allow the EPIC and a list of alternative photo documents. Whether a particular printed copy is accepted is decided on the spot by the election staff, so we cannot promise it. The safest approach is to carry your original EPIC, or one of the alternative documents the ECI lists, and use the PVC print for daily convenience.

Is it accepted for other purposes?

It depends entirely on the office or institution that asks for it. Many places only need to see an identity document and look at the photo and number; some require the original, some accept a self-attested copy, and some ask for the digital version to be verified on the QR code. Ask the receiving office what it accepts before relying on any printed copy.

What a good PVC print should look like

  • Printed exactly from your source file: your photo, name, EPIC number and QR code should not be altered, cropped or “enhanced”.
  • Sharp text, with the QR code crisp enough to scan.
  • Standard CR80 size, so it fits in card holders.
  • Clear information about price, delivery time and what happens if the file is not suitable.

Be wary of any service that offers to change details, correct a typo during printing or provide a card with no source file. Corrections must be made in the electoral roll, not on the plastic. Our guide to Forms 6, 6B, 7 and 8 explains how.

Frequently asked questions

Is a PVC voter card the same as the official voter ID?

No. The official card comes from the Election Commission. A PVC card from a private printer is a convenience copy of it.

Can a PVC voter card be used instead of the original?

Keep your original EPIC or e-EPIC for official use. Use the PVC copy where an office accepts a printed copy.

Can I get a PVC voter card without my EPIC number?

You need either the e-EPIC PDF or a readable photo of your card, because the card must show real details. If you do not have either, download the e-EPIC first or check your EPIC number on the official electoral search page.

Do you change the photo or the address on the card?

No. Changes must be made through the official correction process, after which you can download a fresh e-EPIC and print that.
