Lost Your Voter ID Card? How to Get a Replacement or Reprint

Quick answer: If your Voter ID is lost, first try to download your e-EPIC PDF from the Election Commission of India’s voter portal using your EPIC number and registered mobile. If you want a replacement card, apply with Form 8. A PVC print of the downloaded e-EPIC is an optional durable copy, not an official replacement.

A lost voter card is stressful, but your voter registration is not lost with it. Your name stays in the electoral roll, and the digital record is available whenever you log in. Here is the order of steps that works for most people.

Step 1: Find your EPIC number

Your EPIC number is the 10-character code on the card. If you do not remember it, search the electoral roll on the official ECI electoral search page using your name, relative’s name, age and state. Once you find your entry, note the EPIC number.

Step 2: Download the e-EPIC

If your mobile number is linked to the roll entry, you can download the e-EPIC immediately. Follow our step-by-step e-EPIC download guide. The downloaded PDF is a valid digital copy and also works as the file for printing.

Step 3: Apply for a replacement card if you need one

Use Form 8 on the Voters’ Service Portal or Voter Helpline app and select the option for replacement of EPIC. Keep your reference number and track the status. See which voter form to use if you also need to correct details at the same time.

If you are worried that someone may misuse a stolen card, you can report the loss to your local police station for your own records. A police report can be useful if an office asks for one, but check whether the ECI form requires it.

Step 4: If your mobile number is not linked

You will not receive the OTP to download. Update the mobile number through Form 8 or ask your Booth Level Officer (BLO) to help. After the update is approved, repeat Step 2.

Optional: a durable copy of your e-EPIC

Once you have the PDF, you can have it printed on a PVC card. Our Voter ID (EPIC) PVC card print uses the file you upload, prints it in standard CR80 size, and ships by Speed Post with WhatsApp tracking. West Bengal voters can use the West Bengal e-EPIC PVC card. Remember that a private print is a convenience copy, not an official replacement issued by the ECI. What to avoid

  • Do not pay anyone who promises a “new voter card” without a roll entry.
  • Do not share OTPs.
  • Do not upload your card to unknown apps or sites.

Frequently asked questions

Can I vote if I lost my voter ID?

If your name is in the roll, you can usually vote using another photo ID approved by the ECI, such as Aadhaar, passport or driving licence. Check the list for the election.

Is an FIR needed for a duplicate voter ID?

Requirements can differ by process and state. Follow what the Form 8 replacement option asks on the portal.

How fast can I get a copy?

The e-EPIC can be downloaded the same day if your mobile is linked. A physical replacement takes longer.
