Quick answer: In Uttar Pradesh you can check your name in the electoral roll, download your e-EPIC PDF and apply for corrections through the Election Commission of India’s Voters’ Service Portal or Voter Helpline app. The state office is the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Uttar Pradesh, and the national voter helpline is 1950. The official card is free. A PVC print is an optional private copy.
Uttar Pradesh has the largest electorate of any Indian state, so voter ID questions here are common: a name missing from the roll, a wrong spelling in Hindi or English, an old paper card that has faded, or a lost card. This guide explains the steps in plain language and where a PVC copy fits in. For the basics, start with our explainer on what a Voter ID (EPIC) card is.
Step 1: Check that your name is in the UP electoral roll
Search by your EPIC number, or by name, relative’s name, age and district, on the ECI’s official electoral search. The Chief Electoral Officer, Uttar Pradesh also publishes roll information on its official website. If you cannot find your name, you may not be registered at your current address, and you will need Form 6.
Step 2: Download your e-EPIC
The e-EPIC is a secure PDF of your card. Log in to the Voters’ Service Portal or the Voter Helpline app with your registered mobile number, enter your EPIC number and verify with the OTP. If your mobile number is not linked, you must first update it. Full steps are in our guide to downloading the e-EPIC.
Step 3: Fix errors in your card
Common problems in UP include a misspelt name, wrong relation name, wrong age or an old address after moving districts. Corrections and address changes within or between constituencies use Form 8. Our guide to Forms 6, 6B, 7 and 8 shows which form fits each case. Keep supporting documents ready, such as Aadhaar, school certificate or a utility bill, as the portal lists.
Lost or damaged card in UP
You do not need to wait for a posted card. Download the e-EPIC again, and apply for a replacement with Form 8 if you want a new physical card. See what to do if your voter ID is lost.
Want a durable wallet copy?
